The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that begins the process to mandate lap and shoulder restraint systems based on established U.S. standards and specifications on all newly manufactured motorcoaches. The eventual law becomes effective in January 2014.
At Chicago Sightseeing Company we do everything we can to keep our motorcoaches for a 20-year life cycle, which means adhering to our strategy to keep our vehicles in safe and good condition. Panel corrosion will always be a situation we, like all operators, must face and repair. Over the years we have come up with an easy and perhaps obvious solution to this problem.
Last fall before the annual Iowa-Iowa State football game, long-time Hawkeye supporter Bill Rieckhoff came up with an idea for a better tailgate party. He envisioned two large specialty motorcoaches each with extravagant amenities and painted in the school colors of the rival teams. He would park them side by side outside the Iowa University’s Kennick Stadium and entertain partying football fans.
