High gas prices prompt transit savings

Quickly rising gas prices due to turmoil in the Middle East has lead to the highest savings for transit riders in two years. Based on gas prices rising nearly 30 cents in the last 10 days, the American Public Transit Administration says transit customers can now save nearly $10,000 a year or $825 a month by using transit. Those numbers also include unreserved parking space costs in downtown business districts. The estimates are in the APTA’s montly “Transit Savings Report.”

APTA President William Millar said in a statement that as gas prices rise, “using public transportation is the quickest way people can beat high gasoline prices.” For more, visit www.apta.com.
