NJ Transit bus driver found dead in idling bus

A New Jersey Transit bus driver was found dead at the Port Authority terminal in the Meadowlands last week after he had dropped off his last passenger. According to The Record, Thomas Truex, 59 and a bus operator for 26 years, was found slumped over in a passenger seat. Officials claim the death is not suspicious, but the cause is still undetermined.

Transit officials became alarmed when Truex failed to show up for work later in the afternoon. Later, a NJ Transit supervisor found Truex in the idling bus, sitting in an area at the Authority where drivers often stop for a break. While there are patrols in that area, Truex was missed because he was sitting in a passenger seat. Some now question whether better communication between the Port Authority and NJ Transit could have resulted in Truex being found sooner.
