A casino bus crashed July 4 after striking the center median on the highway outside New York City, injuring 24 passengers, the Associated Press reports.
The bus was traveling along Interstate 95 from the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut to Chinatown in Queens. It struck the center median and then cut across three lanes of traffic. The vehicle stopped after sliding 500 feet.
Authorities told AP that the coach’s driver, who was ejected from the bus, was driving too fast for the wet road conditions. Star Tag Inc., the bus company involved in the crash, has received four driving citations in the last two years. Every one of its recorded vehicle maintenance inspections revealed violations.
Only the driver sustained serious injuries from the crash. Charges may be filed after an investigation is completed, police said.
