16 dead after Nepal bus crash

At least 16 people died and more were injured Monday when a bus careened into a Nepal river, the Associated Press reports.

The bus fell into the Trishuli River, located about 50 miles from the capital city of Katmandu, after rolling off the highway. AP reports that six bodies were initially pulled from the waters and three additional passengers died en route to a hospital. More bodies were recovered later.

Authorities aren’t sure how many passengers were on the bus and are still searching the wreckage for missing persons. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, but AP reports that heavy rainfall may have been responsible.
