It’s the end of the diesel-powered bus in Los Angeles. On Wednesday the last diesel bus was taken out of commission by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. According to the Los Angeles Times, the MTA is now the only major transit agency in the U.S. with a vehicle fleet completely equipped with alternative-fuel technologies. Currently, the MTA has more than 2,200 buses powered by compressed natural gas, six gasoline-electric hybrids and one electric bus. The last diesel bus, a 40-foot New Flyer, is scheduled to be sold at auction for parts.
