DART orders large CNG fleet

The board of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) has OK’d one of the nation’s largest compressed natural gas bus orders. DART has contracted with North American Bus Industries, Inc., Anniston, AL, to buy up to 452 new 30-foot and 40-foot heavy duty, low-floor buses to replace DART’s current fleet of liquefied natural gas and clean diesel buses. The new vehicles are scheduled to be in service in 2013, with the full conversion to CNG completed in 2015. In April, a contract will be awarded for construction of four CNG fueling stations, which will be located at DART’s bus and paratransit maintenance facilities.
