APTA president praises proposed transit infrastructure bill

American Public Transportation Association President William Millar commended President Obama on Wednesday for the administration’s proposed up-front investment of $50 billion, to be earmarked for the nation’s transportation infrastructure. Millar said in a statement that the proposed six-year transit and highway authorization bill shows “the President’s vision of a world class infrastructure system.”

The federal money is designed to create jobs as various public transit systems are expanded. Millar added that for every $1 billion invested in U.S. public transportation, 36,000 jobs are supported and created. Millar said the legislation “can’t happen fast enough,” adding that the new bill would put Americans back to work to repair what he called the country’s woefully underfunded transportation infrastructure.
