Authorities in Colorado have broken up a large-scale marijuana ring that used tour buses to smuggle pot from Mexico to the Rocky Mountain State. According to The Denver Post, 23 smugglers used tour buses to transport more than 45,000 pounds of marijuana to a warehouse in Commerce City in the Denver area over the last 11 months. Authorities say the pot, worth about $36 million, was compressed into bricks and stuffed in compartments underneath the buses. They approximate the pot was delivered twice a week in 400-pound hauls.
Investigators say the weed originated in Durango, Mexico and entered the U.S. through El Paso, TX. Apparently, there were no passengers on the buses except for a driver and one other person. In the bust police confiscated $134,000 in cash, 14 vehicles, seven firearms and cocaine worth $64,000. Police say 18 of the 23 have been arrested; five are at large in Mexico. Ten arrested are believed to be in the U.S. illegally.
