On Monday, Pittsburgh’s Port Authority of Allegheny County was bailed out by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission, albeit narrowly. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the commission approved $45 million for the Port Authority to keep rolling by a vote of 27-22. The transit bailout offers state politicians in Harrisburg more time to figure out Pennsylvania’s transit money challenges. In the meantime, jobs are expected to be slashed and fares hikes are assured. The Port Authority of Allegheny County provides transit services in the nearly 800 square-mile area that includes Pittsburgh and Allegheny County suburbs.
