A bus driver fired from the Austin, TX-based Capital Area Rural Transportation System for refusing an assignment to drive passengers to a Planned Parenthood clinic has reached a settlement with the transit agency. According to KVUE News, Edward Graning, 63, was awarded $21,000 from CARTS. In January 2010, the ordained minister said he would not complete the assignment because he said he might be transporting a client to undergo an abortion. After his firing, Graning sued the agency for reinstatement, back pay, and damages for pain, suffering and emotional distress. He claimed his religious beliefs had been violated.
