President Obama today put his signature on the transportation bill 90-day extension, funding Congress pass earlier this week. The two-year, $109 billion bill was approved by the Senate in early March. This week the House could not agree on bill, leading to its extension.
According to The Hill.com, Republicans in the House have defended their decision to pass the temporary highway bill, saying they intend to approve their own multiyear transportation measure before the expiration of the 90-day extension.
Meanwhile, in statement on Friday, the American Public Transportation Association commended Congress on approving an extension of the surface transportation law and President Obama signing it into law. The APTA went on to say congressional leaders now need to make sure that a long-term surface transportation bill passes and reaches the President’s desk before the June 30 deadline. The APTA is encouraging its members to meet with their congressional representatives while they are in their home districts from March 30 through April 15.
