MCI names Wagner to new post

Motor Coach Industries has tapped Tom Wagner to be Director of Business Development for MCI Public Sector. Wagner joined MCI Public Sector in 2005. The move follows the July 28 announcement that Michael Melaniphy, vice president of MCI Public Sector, will leave the company Sept. 2 to become president and CEO of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA).

Wagner has been overseeing Public Sector’s sales force and specialty markets since he was promoted to his current position in 2009. His recent accomplishments include the market launch of MCI’s newest-generation CNG Commuter Coach and the 84-unit CNG MCI Commuter Coach order from LADOT. In his new role, Wagner will now have additional responsibility for the division’s operations and support staff.

MCI Public Sector markets the Buy-America compliant and Altoona-tested Commuter Coach for transit and government uses. It also serves specialty markets with the MCI J4500 University coach and the MCI Inmate Security Transportation Vehicle (ISTV).

Wagner joined MCI after a career in technology for transit and government agencies, and was initially responsible for the Western territory, which includes all states west of the Mississippi and Western Canada. Wagner holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and economics from Northern Illinois University.
