First corporate-wide certification for the company
Motor Coach Industries (MCI), Schaumburg, IL, announced it received notification that its main manufacturing facilities operated by Motor Coach Industries Limited, Motor Coach Industries, Inc. and Frank Fair Industries Ltd, have been awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification — the first corporate-wide certification for the company.
The primary manufacturing facilities have held individual ISO 9001 certifications, but this is MCI’s first multi-facility certification. According to Cal Kowcun, MCI senior manager of quality assurance, a multi-facility certification assures that the MCI plants share the best practices at each facility. Under this program, third party audits take place twice a year, with re-registration occurring every three years.
“This is an important certification for MCI to achieve,” said Ken Russell, senior vice president of operations and customer support. “The certification points to our constant and consistent quality goals, underscoring why our coaches are respected within the industry for their build quality, smooth ride and longevity.”
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the world’s largest developer and publisher of International Standards. The ISO 9001 standard addresses “Quality Management.” This means what the organization does to fulfill the customer’s quality requirements and applicable regulatory requirements, while aiming to enhance customer satisfaction and achieve continual improvement of its performance in pursuit of these objectives.
The ISO 9001 quality management standard provides a tried and tested framework for taking a systematic approach to managing the organization’s processes so that they consistently turn out products that satisfies customers’ expectations. ISO 9001:2008 certification is the global standard, and some customers’ contracts require ISO 9001:2008 certification.
