L.A. Mayor Villaraigosa calls for more bus-only lanes

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa wants to add at least five more bus-only lanes on a number of Los Angeles County streets. According to the Los Angeles Times, Villaraigosa, who on Thursday began his first day as MTA’s board chairman, believes the bus-only lanes can make L.A.’s public transit system world class. In June, the MTA’s first bus-only lane along Wilshire Boulevard to the Westside was approved at a cost of $31.5 million. The majority of the money will come from the federal government.

The Times reports Villaraigosa has requested a list of recommendations on possible bus-only lanes by October. Ridership demands, feedback from businesses and other factors will be included in the recommendations.
