Federal-Mogul launches latest Magnum Monosteel piston

Heavy-duty diesel vehicles will soon be getting better fuel economy thanks to Federal-Mogul Corporation’s Magnum Monosteel piston. The Southfield, MI-based company has developed the next generation Magnum Monosteel piston, which the company claims has a 7-percent reduction in piston mass. Magnum Monosteel officials say the smaller piston results in less friction and saves fuel and lowers emissions. The new piston features a double-band piston skirt, a first for modern diesel pistons. The double-band reduces the friction by up to 40 percent. Rainer Jueckstock, Federal-Mogul’s senior vice president, says the piston enables better hydrodynamic lubrication, allowing for greater piston stability. Federal-Mogul has 18 globally-networked technical centers. For more, visit www.federal-mogul.com.
