COTA bringing art to bus shelters

Transit and art are being mixed to bring unique new bus stops to the Columbus, OH area. The Central Ohio Transit Authority has partnered with the Columbus College of Art and Design to create new bus stop shelters. Industrial School students at the school will craft the shelters to replace existing shelters in downtown Columbus.

Students were asked to incorporate innovative materials, sustainable or “green” features, protection from the elements and compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. They need to include all of these features in a unique, signature design that complements the urban environment and serves as an attractive focal point to the streetscape. A final decision on design will be made later this year.
