APTA honors North American winners

The 2010 American Public Transportation Association’s annual awards honoring individuals and public transportation systems that have shown leadership and advanced transit in North America were announced in San Antonio on Tuesday. Public transportation companies competed in three categories based on annual ridership from 2007 to 2009. Company winners were handed out to Societe de transport de Montreal; Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority in Tampa, FL; and Bloomington Public Transportation Corporation in Bloomington, IN.

Individuals receiving APTA Awards were Hugh Mose of Centre Area Transportation Authority, State College, PA, who received the Outstanding Public Transportation Manager Award. Jim Srygley, who is CEO of S&A Systems in Rockwall, TX won for Outstanding Public Transportation Business Member Award. Flora Castillo took the Outstanding Public Transportation Board Member Award for her work on the New Jersey Transit board of directors. Finally, Mufi Hannemann, the former mayor of Honolulu, was recognized as the Local Distinguished Service Award. For more, visit www.apta.com.
