The American Bus Association has a message for the U.S. government: buses are here and ready to go, while high-speed rail is years away. The ABA is urging the Obama administration to boost the role of intercity buses as the immediate solution to the nation’s transportation needs. The ABA contends that buses save money, provide hassle-free travel and offers mobility to millions of rural citizens who live far from air and rail hubs. ABA President and CEO Peter Pantuso says motorcoach ridership has increase to 762 million passengers trips annually, adding, quote, “we move more people in two weeks than Amtrak does all year.”
ABA officials are already at work lobbying new and existing congressional members to convince them of the immediate importance of bus use for travel in America and how buses lower congestion on highways and reduce emissions and saves fuel. For more, visit www.buses.org.
