Roaring Fork receives FTA money

The Federal Transit Administration has given Roaring Fork Transportation Authority in Glenwood Springs, CO nearly $25 million for a new express bus service that will improve access to jobs and tourist destinations. The new service will certainly relieve roadway congestion in rural Western Rocky Mountain counties that are among the fastest growing areas in the state.

Called VelociRFTA, the new bus rapid transit line will be helpful to thousands of workers commuting to popular resorts in Snowmass and Aspen from areas like Glenwood Springs and Carbondale. Fifteen new clean diesel buses will be purchased for service along a 40-mile corridor between Glenwood Springs and Aspen. The new service will have priority lanes to keep the buses moving, onboard Wi-Fi, and enclosed bus shelters to protect passengers from inclement weather. Also, nine bus stations and five park-and-ride facilities will be constructed.
