Report: Heavy bus production will rise in 2012

World heavy bus production is set to rise to a new record level in 2012, according to authors of the recently published seventh edition of the market report, ‘The World Bus & Coach Manufacturing Industry’.

The high demand globally for passenger transport by bus and coach of the last decade has continued into 2012, the report indicates. There have, it adds, been one or two black spots, mainly in those countries with deep general financial problems. Globally in 2011, however, production of buses over eight tons gross hit a record level of over 320,000 units. This growth trend is forecast to continue well into this decade.

It was also significant, says the report, that virtually all the bus-making companies in the world’s leading commercial vehicle making groups reported record financial performances – particularly the West European producers. In short, whilst the industry was affected by the global financial crisis, the impact was less in the bus manufacturing industry than other manufacturing sectors (notably truck manufacture).

A close study of the Report reveals that the fastest growing market sector for manufacturers is purpose-built school buses – a sector, the numbers of which are not included in the global production figure quoted above, but which have been the bedrock of bus manufacture in the USA and Canada for many years.
