New hires, buses proposed for Canada’s Grand River Transit

At least 57 employees and 19 buses could be part of the new expansion of Grand River Transit in Kitchener, ON, Canada. According to the Waterloo Region Record, the regional council is considering a 20-year transportation plan costing $3.7 billion. Last year the council approved the proposal in principle. Some 44 of the planned 57 hires would be drivers, adding to the current staff by 11 percent. The proposal would be paid for by a transit tax increase of $4.1 million this year and a similar tax increase for the following 19 years. Grand River Transit, or GRT, is the public transport operator for the Region of Waterloo, ON, Canada.
