Chicago Neighborhood Tours, a division of the Office of Tourism, recently added several new themed half-day bus tours to its offerings this season.
The new tours include a look at Albany Park with stops at the Cambodian American Heritage Museum, the River Park Dam and Waterfall, North Park Village and the Superdawg Drive-In.
The Land of Lincoln tour takes in Civil War grave sites at Oak Woods Cemetery, the Stephen A. Douglas Tomb and Monument, Grant and Lincoln Parks, as well as the Chicago History Museum collection of Lincoln memorabilia.
The new Hyde Park and Kenwood tour cruises by President Barack Obama’s Kenwood home and offers a look at the University of Chicago, Hyde Park, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, the Oriental Institute Museum and Jackson Park’s Osaka Garden.
A new special interest tour, Make Big Plans: Burnham Centennial, showcases Daniel Burnham and William Bennett’s 1909 Plan of Chicago and its legacy. Other special interest tours include the White City, site of the 1893 World Columbian Exposition. Taste of the Neighborhoods features visits to ethnic restaurants, as well as tours that revisit Polish Chicago, the great Chicago fire, great Chicago cemeteries and literary Chicago.
Other favorite Neighborhood Tours include Great Parks of Chicago, historic Bronzeville, Pilsen and Little Village, as well as Devon Avenue.
