Three days after a tour bus crashed in the Bronx, NY killing 15 people, New Jersey officials are investigating a tour bus accident that killed the 50-year-old driver, a 20-year-old passenger and left 40 others injured. Monday evening the bus, operated by Super Luxury Tours, ran off the New Jersey Turnpike and into a grassy median and hit a concrete overpass support. The force of the impact caused the back of the bus to leave the ground and hit the bottom of the overpass. The bus was bound for Philadelphia from Manhattan.
According to the Star-Ledger, Super Luxury Tours has one of the worst driver safety records in the country. The paper reports that over the last two years, 16 of the company’s drivers have been involved in four accidents, two with injuries. Also, drivers were cited six times for speeding and three times for failure to obey traffic signals. A language problem with drivers has also been a concern. Last year, Super Luxury Tours buses traveled more than 2.2 million miles on U.S. roadways, mostly on the East Coast. For more, visit www.nj.com.
