Passengers of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Transit could be paying more in the future. According to the San Francisco Examiner, a proposed increase of roughly 25 percent over the next five years is being considered. If approved by the district’s board, the new fares would go in effect on July 1. The Examiner reports that Golden Gate Transit users face yet another rate hike as the GGT works through a five-year operating shortfall of $89 million. Every year since 1998 Golden Gate Transit users have faced rate increases. Two hearings on the new proposal will be held in April, with the board voting on the measure later that month.
