Free rides for Phoenix, Tempe transit users – maybe

Transit users in Phoenix and Tempe, AZ could receive three days of free rides on buses, a way to make up for the inconvenience of a six-day strike in March. According to the Arizona Republic, the city of Phoenix is suggesting the free rides on the Valley’s 101 bus routes to occur on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday in June or July. The proposal has to go through both the Phoenix and Tempe city councils for debate.

Veolia Transportation Services and about 1,000 bus drivers belonging to Amalgamated Transit Local 1433 finally agreed on a contract on March 16. The new five-year contract ended 22-months of contentious negotiations.
