Fort Worth Transit: Pull up your pants

Transit customers of the Fort Worth Transportation Authority have been given a warning: pull up your pants or you will be refused service. According to the Star-Telegram, the FWTA is now enforcing a new dress code that allows drivers to turn away riders wearing pants that sag below the waist. Posters in the  T buses are getting the message across. Each one reads: Grandma says “Pull ‘em up’ or find another ride.” The posters feature caricatures of two grandmotherly figures.

The new policy went into effect on May 12; about 50 riders were asked to pull their pants up. An agency spokeswoman said all passengers complied with the request. While many embrace the move a number riders questioned the decision, saying it denies personal freedom rights and is an affront to the hip-hop-influenced fashion statement.
