Fed funds may be restored to Miami-Dade transit

The Federal Transit Administration has decided to partially release up to $65 million in subsidies to Miami-Dade Transit, which operates Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover. The restoration of money could occur with a week.

According to the Miami Herald, federal money was suspended last November when the FTA suspended funds after officials found flaws in the financial administration of the Miami-Dade County transit agency. One complaint lodged was that the agency failed to detail precisely how it spent federal money and how it accounted for buses’ fare box revenue. Negotiations have been ongoing since the funds were halted.
