Casino bus crash injures 20

A tour casino bus crashed with a Dodge sedan Sunday evening on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago, leaving 20 injured, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Firefighters said no one was seriously injured in the accident. Another 31 declined treatment. The bus, operated by Royal Excursion out of Mishawaka, IN, was headed toward Chinatown from Gary, Indiana’s Majestic Star Casino.

The crash comes a little more than a week after a tour bus crash in Virginia that killed four people and left 53 others injured. That Sky Express bus was on its way to Chinatown from Greensboro, NC.

The recent series of accidents this year have shined a critical light on the tour bus industry, the lack of monitoring of tour bus companies and those they hire. Just last week Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced that more than 3,000 surprise passenger carrier safety inspections over a two-week period in May had resulted in 442 unsafe buses or drivers being removed from the roadways.
