More than $7.3 million in tax increment financing for a bus rapid transit line in downtown Chicago has been approved by Chicago Mayor 
Rahm Emanuel. According to WBEZ radio, the money will be combined with another $24.6 million from the Federal Transit Administration for heavily used routes in Chicago.
When Emanuel took office last year he promised a BRT pilot within three years. That plan included dedicated bus lines, signal preemption, pre-paid boarding or on-board fare verification, multiple entry and exit points on the buses, limited stops and street-level boarding.
