New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority will soon institute a zero-tolerance policy for cell phone use by bus drivers. According to the New York Daily News, the new policy goes into affect January 12. Beginning that day a driver caught operating a bus while using a hand-held cell phone could be fired. While drivers will still have the right to appeal, MTA officials say the policy will most likely lead to more firings. The Daily News reports that over the last two years New York bus drivers have been had 650 cell phone violations, with some drivers being caught repeatedly.
