Blue Bird adding commodity surcharge

Blue Bird Corp., a school bus manufacturer for more than 80 years, plans to initiate a $1,400 commodity surcharge on all new orders placed after Aug. 4. Continued global commodity price increases in steel, copper and precious metals are to blame for the surcharge, company officials said.

“Blue Bird has absorbed and attempted to offset these cost issues through a variety of measures including manufacturing efficiencies and finding alternative material sources.  However, like our competitors, we have been unable to offset all of these significant price increases,” said Phil Horlock, President and CEO of Blue Bird Corporation.
