Politicians discuss bus safety
House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee leaders met on Monday to discuss bus safety and the job the U.S. Department of Transportation is doing in keeping the roadways safer by cracking down on rogue bus companies and their drivers. The Committee reviewed federal safety programs with the intent of improving bus safety.
“Bus transportation is one of our safest modes of travel, but we must ensure that our federal safety laws are effectively enforced, particularly to prevent continued operations by bad actors in the industry,” said U.S. Rep. John L. Mica (R-FL). “This hearing will help inform the Committee as it continues to develop a multi-year reauthorization of transportation programs, including our highway safety programs.”
The review comes after series of deadly bus crashes in the East. Federal, state and local authorities have stepped up efforts to identify and shutdown unethical bus companies.
