CTA slashes top-level positions

In a move to cut costs, the Chicago Transit Authority has eliminated 54 non-union positions, including 26 manager-level positions. According to the Chicago Tribune, the cutting of 10 percent of senior management positions was ordered by Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The cuts amount to about $7.6 million. There has also been a delay in hiring at CTA. Along with the hiring freeze, slashing expenditures on materials contracts and utilities will amount to a savings of an estimated $15 million. The CTA currently has 1,476 fewer full-time-equivalent positions than it did in 2007.
