College basketball star killed in bus crash

Former North Carolina State basketball player Lorenzo Charles died Monday afternoon in a bus crash on Interstate 40 just west of Raleigh, NC. According to the News Observer, the 47-year-old Charles was driving an Elite Tours charter bus westbound on I-40 when he lost control at an exit and slammed into a stand of trees. Charles was the only person on the bus. Charles is best known for his last-second basket in the 1983 NCAA Championship that gave the N.C. State Wolfpack the national championship.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Elite Tours has been a registered interstate carrier since June 2009.
