Survey: MD drivers not stopping for school buses

A new survey shows motorists in Maryland are not stopping for school buses. The study, sponsored by the Maryland State Department of Education, showed during one day in February more than 7,000 drivers were recorded passing school buses with their stop arms extended and red lights flashing. Of the violations, nearly 4,000 were oncoming drivers, while more than 2,600 moved past a parked bus on the driver’s side. Also, 366 passed a stopped school bus on the door side.

The MSDA worked with school transportation directors in all of the state’s 24 school systems, with more than 4,700 bus drivers taking part in the survey. For more, visit www.marylandpublicschools.org.
