School bus ad trend questioned by FAPT

The growing trend of school districts allowing advertising on the sides of buses to generate money has an opponent in the Florida Association for Pupil Transportation. Officials at the FAPT believe advertisements on school buses could cause potential safety and legal issues. In a released position paper, the FAPT contends that ads could distract motorists from the traditional yellow color scheme of a school bus, its flashing lights and stop arm. Legal issues could arise over ads some may deem questionable or inappropriate. A bill allowing ads on yellow buses is currently being debated in the Florida Legislature, and is opposed by the FAPT. In recent months New Jersey’s governor signed a bill allowing ads, while a legislator in Utah has proposed a similar bill. For more, visit www.faptflorida.org.
