Report: Public transport relieves traffic backups

A new report by the Texas Transportation Institute shows public transportation relieves traffic congestion more than what was believed. The 2010 Urban Mobility Report reveals that without public transportation travelers would have suffered an additional 785 million hours of delay and consumed 640 million more gallons of fuel. The report looked at road congestion in 439 U.S. urban areas. Improved technology indicates  public transportation plays an even bigger role in reducing traffic than previously thought. The report also found that nearly 60 percent of all trips on public transportation involve travel to and from job sites. Also, an estimated 36,000 jobs are created with every $1 billion invested in public transportation. For more, visit www.apa.com.
