Report: Intercity bus usage on the rise

A recently release report by DePaul University shows intercity bus use increasing. The report entitled, “The intercity Bus: America’s Fastest Growing Transportation Mode – 2010 Update on Scheduled Bus Service,” reveals intercity bus usage rose 6 percent in 2010. It’s the third year in a row that intercity bus service has been the fastest growing mode of intercity transportation. Peter Pantuso, the president and CEO of the American Bus Association, said the new study “confirms that the travel mode shift toward buses is continuing, and it’s easy to see why consumers are fast becoming loyal bus riders.” The report states that because more Americans are taking bus transit, an estimated 11 million gallons of gasoline is saved annually. The report was released by the Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development. For more, visit www.las.depaul.edu/chaddick.
