CTTransit workers threatening strike
More than 750 mechanics and other workers for Connecticut Transit in Stamford, New Haven and Hartford are threatening to strike in January if a new contract is not approved this week. According to the Stamford Advocate, on Dec. 5 workers rejected a proposed 33-month contract offered by CTTransit management. One of the main points of contention is over health care premiums. CTT workers agreed to continue under the present contract after the June expiration date. The current agreement runs through Dec. 31. A strike could affect nearly 11,000 passengers a day. The last strike by CTT mechanics and drivers in Hartford, New Haven and Stamford occurred in 1972. For more, visit www.stamfordadvocate.com.
