Fuel Cell-Powered buses introduced to Hartford fleet

Four fuel cell-powered hybrid-electric buses went into service Friday in Hartford, CT, all operated by Connecticut Transit. The next generation transit vehicles are equipped with UTC Power fuel cell systems. The new vehicles are part of the Federal Transit Administration’s national Fuel Cell Bus Program. Currently, only the greater Oakland/San Francisco, CA area has a larger fuel cell bus fleet in the U.S. The new transit buses are 40-foot Van Hools. Fuel cell buses run on hydrogen and produce only water vapor and no harmful emissions. CTTransit is currently building a new garage to hold up to six fuel cell buses. CTTransit serves the Hartford, New Haven, Stamford, Waterbury, New Britain, Meriden, Bristol and Wallingford areas. For more, visit www.utcpower.com.
