NTSB to investigate deadly Beltway bus accident

A bus crash Wednesday on Interstate 270 in Bethesda, MD that left the bus driver dead and nearly a dozen injured is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board. Maryland State Police say parents and children were on board the bus that plunged off a skyramp and fell 45 feet down an embankment. The driver, who was identified as 66-year-old Joseph Clabaugh Jr. of Hanover, PA, was pronounced dead at the scene. The bus belonged to Wolf’s Bus Lines in York Springs, PA. The company charters trips to the Washington and Mid-Atlantic areas.

According to the “The Washington Post,” the bus was carrying 11 passengers to Washington when the bus careened off the freeway around 4 p.m. Eastern time. Authorities say the bus rolled over once, and then came to rest upright. The bus crash led to another wreck between two vehicles. Police dogs were used in the search to assure no other victims were in the shattered bus or had been ejected. For more, visit www.washingtonpost.com.
